| Rotaract at the Two Saints Raft Race, Wolston |
| |
|
| |
| |
On Saturday 7th June 2008 The Rotaract Club of Coventry had a stall at the Two Saints Raft Race.
The race started in Church Lawford with over 20 rafts and finished in Wolston where Rotaractors were on hand entertaining the spectators with their fundraising stall.
Name the teddy, treasure island and guess the number of balloons in the car were all on offer with prizes such as the bear and a set of paintballing vouchers to be won.
The weather kept dry long enough for the race to finish and crowds participated in the fundraising activities to raise just over £100 for charities supported by The Rotaract Club of Coventry inc Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Mercia MS Therapy Centre.
Many thanks to the Rugby Observer for the above photo. |

| Eat Breakfast in the most Strangest Place - Oxygen Chamber, Mercia MS Therapy Centre, Coventry |
| |
RGBI Challenges us to eat breakfast in the most unusual place!
Coventry Rotaract, the voluntary fundraising and personal development Club for people aged 18-30, have been eating their breakfast in the oxygen chamber at the Mercia MS Therapy Centre. This was because Rotaract Clubs across the country were challenged to eat breakfast in the most unusual place as part of a competition to celebrate World Rotaract Day. The oxygen chamber was certainly considered to be an unusual place to have breakfast, and also gave club members the opportunity to see the facilities at the centre for whom they have pledged to raise money this year. The centre is in Aldermans Green in Coventry and is an independent charity providing therapies and support for Multiple Sclerosis sufferers and those close to them.
Members of The Rotaract Club of Coventry, plus a member of one of the supporting Rotary clubs, visited the therapy centre armed with bacon butties, sausage sarnies and bowls of cereal.
Amanda Thurlow, Coventry Rotaract’s Community & Fundraising Officer said, “It has been a privilege and an amazing experience to visit the Mercia MS Therapy Centre and talk to the staff. The idea of today was initially meant to be about raising awareness of Rotaract, but we were lucky enough to be able to include one of our main chosen charities in this challenge as well. Having seen the valuable work that is done here it has certainly strengthened our ambition to continue to support worthy local causes”. |

| Lovely bit of Pub Golf for Charity...Friday 29th February 2008, Craven Street, Coventry |
| |
An adaptation of the traditional drinking game - something more like golf themed pub crawl!
Rotaractor's and friends turned out on 29th February for a spot of Pub Golf along Craven St - one of Coventry's most popular pub crawl routes.
Most in fancy dress (prize was given to Kate Pearson for the best one) and with buckets to shake we collected money from the sale of scorecards and from donations from other drinkers in the pub.
Responsible drinking was promoted and the option to buy a non alcoholic scorecard was available. Everyone had a great night and we raised £195.22. |

| Coventry Rotaract's Halloween Party, Friday 26th October 2007, The Maudsley Pub, Allesley Old Road, Coventry |
| |
The Rotaract Club of Coventry hosted a Halloween Party at The Maudslay Coventry in aid of their supported charities including the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the Mercia MS Therapy Centre.
Appoximately 100 people attended the event, and all were entertained by Coventry band The Satin Dolls and danced the night away to the sounds of guest DJ Jay Watson.
Ghosts, Ghouls, witches and vampires amongst others turned out for the fancy dress competition with the prize of a bottle of champagne, kindly donated by Escape Bar, going to The Ghostbusters.
Guests also took part in apple bobbing and a raffle during the nights entertainment.
Generous donations of equipment, services and prizes from local companies including as Asda, Savilles AV, The Maudslay, Alexander Wines, Escape Bar, The Creaky Cauldron and Santa Pod Raceway allowed the club to host the event completely free of charge - meaning that 100% of the money raised on the night went to the charities. Thank you also to Elemental Designs for the poster!
The grand total of money raised on the night was over £600.
The Club would like to thank everyone for their support for the event.

| Cheque Presentation to the Coventry Sea Cadets, Tuesday 11th September 2007 |
| |
|
| |
|
Amanda Thurlow, Community and Fundraising Officer, and Helen Councell, Membership Officer, from The Rotaract Club of Coventry visited the Coventry Sea Cadets to present them with £100 cheque.
The Rotaract Club of Coventry is a group of 18-30 year olds sponsored by the Rotary club of Coventry who are committed to raising funds for charity. The Sea Cadets received the £100 donation from Rotaract to assist with the purchase of VHF radios.
The radios will be used on training days at Draycott water to make the adventures a lot safer by allowing communication between shore and water as well as amongst the different groups on the water. The radios will not only aid in the safer operation of the units training but they will also be used to provide the sea cadets with the opportunity to gain qualifications in radio communications. |
